Jason David…How Much Worse Can He Do?
9 games into the 2007 NFL season and I think it’s time for Saints Head Coach Sean Payton to sit starting cornerback Jason David.
David is a stand-up guy and a solid veteran player….but after watching him so far this season I think I speak for Saints fans everywhere when I say he should be a solid veteran back-up player.
David came over from the Indianapolis Colts as a big ticket free agent. The black and gold signed David to a 4 year, 16 million dollar contract.
But David can’t play in the Saints defense which requires cornerbacks to play lots of one-on-one with wide outs.
David excelled in Indy’s cover 2 scheme…probably because he had a great safety like Bob Sanders.
So far this season David got roasted against his former team to start the year. Jeff Garcia and Joey Galloway made him look like a semi-pro in week 2 and in week 3 Vince Young, one of the worst passing QB’s in the NFL, hit several big plays against David.
David broke his forearm in week 3 and missed 4 games. In all of those games the Saints defense played lights out and won 3 games.
David returned to action last week against Jacksonville and because the team won, his questionable performance was overlooked.
But today it’s hard to overlook numbers like this; Going into the 3rd quarter against the Rams quarterback Mark Bulger threw at David 10 times…..he completed 8 of those throws for 109 yards and 2 touchdowns.
It’s time to see if Jason Craft can be a starter…and if not, maybe start rookie Usama Young….how much worse can he do?
