Saints Numbers

Okay, so I’m a little weird.

I think it’s fascinating what jersey numbers athletes wear.

I have no solid reason for being fixated on numbers….I mean, I hate math….that’s why I went into journalism.

Maybe my interest in this numerical sociology comes from being a superstitious former college baseball player and identifying players and people with the number they wear.

I also have a tendency to judge athletes based on what number they wear. For instance, I’ve always thought that anyone wearing the #1 is overly cocky!

I think #9 should always be reserved for a solid leader….#9 is Roy Hobbs…..it’s Ted Williams….it’s Drew Brees!

I think the wacky odd ball should always wear #13…..#13 is Turk Wendell, it’s a colorful lefty QB…..in a perfect world Ken Stabler would have been #13 (not #12).

My college baseball number was 22 and my brother was 33. Maybe it’s because I’m a twin, but something about identical numbers side by side looks so right.

So, for the last 12 years all the log-in’s and pass codes I’ve needed for anything usually have a 22 or a 33.

Now, enough rambling….the reason I’m writing all this is because the Saints issued Jersey numbers to their new players.

So, for all the passionate black and gold faithful out there looking to go buy a new souvenir jersey….here they are:

1st Round: USC DT Sedrick Ellis

New Saints Number: #90

Ellis’ College Number: #49

  1. I, too, have always been fascinated with jersey numbers, & why athletes wear the jersey numbers that they do. I think a lot of it has to do with superstitions & “good-luck” beliefs; they don’t want to jinx themselves. Also, I think that an athlete who wears a #1 jersey can be overly cocky.
