I know I’ve thrown out a lot of off the wall ideas….and I’ve got another crazy trade scenario for the Hornets.
After being drafted out of high school in 2000 Stevenson has really emerged the past 3 seasons. He’s played in all 82 games and averaged 11 points per game.
11 points per game may not jump out as eye popping but when you consider he’s the 4th option on a Washington team that includes ball-hog Gilbert Arenas, Caron Butler and Antwan Jamison…11 points per is solid.
Let’s start with the fact that Washington has decided to spend BIG money to retain it’s big three. Arenas, Jamison and Butler are the go to guys in DC.
But with this core the team has failed to emerge deep into the post season.
So why not tweak things a bit.
As for the Hornets, they need a shooting guard who can either take Morris Peterson’s starting job or come off the bench and play significant minutes.
So here’s the trade I propose:
SG DeShawn Stevenson
PF Oleksiy Pecherov
PG Jannero Pargo
C/PF Hilton Armstrong
Pargo would go in a sign and trade to the Wizards and would provide that team with a player capable of stepping in for Arenas if his knee isn’t healthy. Pargo could also play along side Arenas in certain situations (much the same way he played in certain sets with Paul).
The Hornets could stick Stevenson into the starting line-up and bring MoPete off the bench.
Is this deal something the Hornets should be banking on? No Way.
But if all efforts to land Corey Maggette, Ben Gordon and Josh Childress fail….I think Hornets General Manager Jeff Bower should start calling the 202 area code very soon.
