Saints, Gustav & San Antonio
August 28, 2008

“We have a number of cities that we have contacted as part of our contingency planning for hurricanes,” said Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis. “San Antonio is a city in which we are familiar and was a terrific host in 2005, however, our plans call for us to consider an alternate location at this time. This is a decision that I have made after consulting with our Head Coach Sean Payton and our football operations staff, keeping in mind our goal of giving the football team its best opportunity to prepare for the opening game. It is critical that not only the Saints but the people of our state have a plan in the event a storm enters the Gulf. Our goals are to implement our plan as efficiently as possible keeping in mind the safety of the people in our organization and their families. In the event we have to evacuate, we will return to New Orleans as quickly as possible to prepare for the 2008 season.”

Personally, I think if the Saints have to relocate they should look to go to Jackson, MS.

Worst Case Scenario For LSU
August 28, 2008

Okay, let’s say Gustav stays on his current path and comes right for us.

Emotionally I don’t know If I can handle that…but let’s just say it happens.

What do the LSU Tigers do if Governor Bobby Jindal orders evacuations and orders contra-flow.

Does the LSU Appalachian State game get postponed?

Can you imagine the people fleeing southeast Louisiana & all the traffic from an LSU game Saturday in Baton Rouge?

Here is one possible scenario if all schools are willing to play ball.

LSU postpones it’s game this weekend with Appalachian State.  They then replay that game Saturday, September 13th.

LSU was set to play North Texas on September 13th.

If North Texas would be willing to move the game to November 15th this doomsday scenario would work.

Both LSU & North Texas have bye weeks on November 15th.

Just something to think about if things get really dicey over the next 48 hours.

P.J. Brown Back In The NBA?
August 27, 2008

A blogger in Boston is reporting that P.J. Brown will play at least one more year in the NBA.

Brown is of course a resident of Slidell who late last year joined the Boston Celtics and picked up a world championship ring.

I still hold out hope that P.J. will come back and win a championship with the Hornets (who can of course use an extra big man).

The blogger in Boston claims that Brown will do exactly what he did one year ago…..wait until late February and pick a team that has the best chance of winning a championship.

Let’s hope it’s the Hornets!

Great Stuff
August 25, 2008

Thankfully Saints cornerback Jason David is out of the starting line-up.  Replacing him would have been second year pro Usama Young but he’s injured.  Rookie Tracy Porter is now running with the starters and played well in preseason game #3 against Cincinnati.

Even though David is out, he’s still getting beat-up by fans.  Thanks to two of my oldest friends (Sergio & Ross) for sending me these two items over the weekend.

Great stuff.

I hope Usama Young comes back fast from his hamstring injury.  He was having a tremendous training camp. I think by midseason Usama will be one of the Saints starting corners!

Can This Guy Play Football?
August 21, 2008

I can envision Jerry Romig announcing this in the superdome….

starting at wide receiver for the New Orleans Saints…..from Trelawny, Jamica….Usain Bolt!

Watching the Olympics I can’t help but think back to a movie I saw over a dozen years ago….remember a film called ‘The Air Up There’ starring Kevin Bacon?  Not many do, it wasn’t that good.  Generic, feel good sports movie.  It’s about a college basketball coach who goes to Africa to sign a raw basketball talent.

Usain Bolt is now the greatest sprinter in Olympic history. He’s the new world record holder in the 100m and 200m dash.  He’s also 22 years old…stands 6’5 and weighs 195 pounds.

Can you imagine this guy lined up across from Marques Colston and going deep? His size would prevent him from getting jammed at the line…he’s faster than any player in the NFL and his size could make him a weapon in the red zone on fade routes, he’d have no problem jumping over smaller defensive backs.

Does Bolt want to play football?  I have no clue…but if I were the Saints I’d open up the wallet and fork over a sizeable sum…..I’d gamble that Bolt could be coached into becoming an NFL caliber wide receiver.

Hornets New Uniforms
August 21, 2008

First let me start by saying that I’m a huge Hornets fan.

Some people find religion…I found the NBA in 2002!

I love going to games, covering the players and tossing out my opinions about who the team should sign, trade and cut.

For years, I’ve also been pushing for the franchise to change it’s colors and logo. They finally have.

I love the new logos! Love them!

I love 50% of the new uniforms.

The road (creole blue) uniforms are great.  They’re a great representation of New Orleans. Loud and inspired.

The home uniforms to me are uninspiring.  What do the Hornets new home uniforms remind me of?  Charlotte!

Look at the old Charlotte Hornets uniforms….eerily similar to the ‘new’ Hornets uniforms.

Personally, I’d have plastered the ‘NOLA’ logo across the chest of the new home jerseys.

But that’s just me.

Also, I still think the Hornets should sign combo guard Delonte West.  The Cavaliers have no use for him and he’d be a tremendous asset off the bench for the Hornets.

My Olympics Superstar!
August 15, 2008

Like the 81 million Americans who are watching the Olympics each night….I’m hooked!

Amazing stuff.  The record breaking performances….all of it live on WDSU…..the behind the scenes stories about Beijing…..amazing!

Watching Michael Phelps and what he’s doing is once in a lifetime.

that said….I’ve done my due diligence…..some hard core research and found the most beautiful Olympian:

Paraguayan Javelin Thrower Leryn Franco:  WOW!

Saints & Chesney Concert
August 15, 2008

By now all Saints fans know the relationship between country western singer Kenny Chesney and Coach Sean Payton.

The two are good friends and because of their relationship Chesney has spent a few days each of the last two training camps workout with the black & gold.

Chesney played a concert in New Orleans last night and the Saints were of course well represented.

People at the concert said Sean Payton and Scott Fujita made an appearance on stage and Drew Brees even sang a song.

I’m told Chesney even wore his Saints helmet on stage and threw football to the crowd.

McFarland To Workout For Saints
August 15, 2008

With starting defensive tackle Hollis Thomas suffering a torn right biceps muscle and being sidelinded for at least two months the Saints are looking for free agent big men.

Sources tell WDSU sports that former LSU Tiger Anthony ‘Booger’ McFarland will workout for the club on Sunday.

Booger of course played at LSU and was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the 15th overall pick in the 199 draft.

The 30 year old has two Super Bowl rings.  He earned the first with Tampa Bay and the second as a member of the Indianapolis Colts.

A resident of Winnsboro, McFarland signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers last March but failed a physical and is currently a free agent.
