Hornets Analysis

Last night the Hornets won their season opener on the road in Oakland, California against the Golden State Warriors.

A first glance at the box score shows what we all know…Chris Paul is amazing, 21 points, 11 assists, 3 steals and David West is the most underrated player in the NBA…he finished with 24 points and 7 rebounds.

Tyson Chandler also had a double double, Peja tossed in 16 and free agent addition James Posey scored 11 and played some intense defense.

Now to the bad.  Besides Posey….the Hornets bench looked woeful!

Hilton Armstrong had 3 turnovers in 9 minutes and continues to look lost! When Mike James took over the offense as Paul’s back-up the Hornets had a 4 point lead….when he checked out the Hornets were down by 11.

Paul, West and Chandler all played about 40 minutes.

The Hornets need Julian Wright to come back soon and come back strong.

If Posey can team with Wright off the bench to provide solid relief the bench may be servicable.  What really worries me is the back-up point guard position.  I don’t think Mike James or Devin Brown are the answers.  I thought the team failed to upgrade at this position in the off season…I hope I’m wrong but I think come February the Hornets may be in the market for a guy who can back-up Paul and porvide the Hornets star with some much needed rest.
