Why the deal works:

HORNETS: Where their is smoke their is fire! I still don’t believe coach Byron Scott wants to trade Tyson Chandler but I can’t turn on my computer without reading about a potential deal with Miami.  So, assuming the rumors from the national experts are true….The Hornets get Shawn Marion to help bolster their offense.  The Hornets also pick-up double-double machine David Lee.  Yes, the Hornets give up size….but they pick up plenty of production and get tremendous salary relief at the end of the season because both players are free agents this summer.  I do worry that this deal would leave the Hornets short on not only size but also a shooter….but with Posey off the bench and perhaps MoPete playing again I think it could work out nicely for Byron Scott.  Personally, I know it’s a small starting five, but I’d have no problem watching a line-up of Paul, Peja, Marion, West and Lee on the floor for the Hornets in the post season.  The Hornets also give the Knicks a 1st round pick in 2009 or 2010 but if the Hornets can re-sign Lee it’s more than worth it.

HEAT:  Pat Riley gets the athletic big man he’s been looking for to pair with Dwayne Wade and Michael Beasley.  Chandler has a player option on his contract for 2010-2011 which could hurt the Heat’s chances of landing a big time free agent in the summer of 2010.  But winning is important and Chandler and Butler would make Miami better this year and next.

KNICKS:  The Knicks probably won’t be able to afford Lee when he hits free agency this summer.  In return for the two players they give up NYC gets a smooth shooter in Mike Miller.  Coach Mike D’Antoni is reportedly a big fan of Miller.  The former Florida Gator would immediately make them better and his huge contract comes off the books in 2010….when the Knicks will be trying to land Lebron and at least one other big ticket free agent!

T’Wolves:  They get immediate salary relief because Harrington’s contract expires at the end of the season.  Minnesota also gets a former lottery pick in Wright who would probably be better suited playing for a young team that needs good young people to build around.
