KISSIMMEE, Fla. — There’s no way to explain what has happened to Brian Bogusevic’s baseball career the past six months.

He’s the most intriguing young position player the Astros have in camp, and maybe that’s all that counts.

He has come so far so fast that he would surprise almost no one by playing center field at Minute Maid Park at some point this year.

“The sky’s the limit for him,’’ assistant general manager Ricky Bennett said.

That’s a far cry from last July when he was summoned to a meeting and told the career he’d planned on having was over.

Bogusevic was once the best pitching prospect the Astros had — a 2004 first-round draft pick who threw hard and had raging competitive fires. Then after 77 minor league appearances, he was a pitcher no more.
