B.J. Raji

Mike Florio on his www.profootballtalk.com site just put up his 2009 NFL mock draft and I love his thought process regarding the Saints.

Florio writes:

14.  New Orleans Saints:  B.J. Raji, defensive tackle, Boston College.

A mini-slide by Raji, which could get worse if his name actually shows up on the positive drug test list from the Combine, gives the Saints a chance to build their own Williams Wall in the middle of the defensive line, pairing Raji with 2008 first rounder Sedrick Ellis.

I love B.J. Raji and think the Saints could use a player like him but I never in a million years thought he’d fall to #14.  If he slides due to a bad rumor about his drug test at the combine the Saints should sprint to the podium and call his name.  bj

Getting to know B.J. Raji (DT 6’2, 337 lbs.):

Outstanding mass and bulk…Excellent strength…Stout at the point of attack…Can fill two gaps…Able to occupy multiple blockers…Tough, powerful and nasty…A beast against the run…Can really collapse the pocket…Able to penetrate and make plays in the backfield…Above average athleticism…Quick and agile…Pursues well and has a burst to close…Good instincts and awareness…Will offer schematic versatility.

  1. if raji is at 14 i would only get him if he’s the best available on the board…both raji and jenkins make sense long term but i still think secondary is a biggest weakness

  2. B.J. Raji is talented!
