The much-anticipated bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao is all but set for March 13, a source told Yahoo! Sports.
Mayweather has agreed to terms and promoter Bob Arum is making a trip to Manila, Philippines, to finalize a deal with Pacquiao, the source said.
Las Vegas, Dallas and New Orleans are the front-runners to host the bout, which is expected to become the highest-grossing boxing match in the sport’s history.
Pacquiao is the top pound-for-pound fighter in nearly every major ranking, including Yahoo! Sports. Mayweather is No. 2 in most rankings and was No. 1 in nearly all of the polls before he briefly retired in June 2008.

It is imperative for New Orleans to continue to go after large sporting events like Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao fight. New Orleans has had a strong, long, and successful history with boxing from the famous 1892 John Sullivan vs. Gentleman John Corbett super fight, to the famous Roberto Duran and Sugar Ray Leonard “no mas” fight.
For New Orleans to be considered a strong sports destination town, it needs to get this fight as well as other large sporting events. Let me be the first to say I am a life long citizen of New Orleans. I love New Orleans, however lets be honest, New Orleans is falling behind the larger sports destination cities in the United States. Large attention grabbing events in New Orleans will highlight everything that is great about our city. Being a large player in the sports scene will not only bring tourists to the city, but will wipe away the stigma that New Orleans is a stagnant city.
For those who live in New Orleans, know that it is slowly improving; nevertheless we are not where we should be. However, the passion that this city shows for its sports team is like no other. We need to let our passion for sports be the spark that drives this remarkable city out the depths of mediocrity. If New Orleans is able to grab this fight, and it is successful, then other large events will surely follow.
