Final Trade Proposal (I PROMISE!!!)

Since I’ve proposed nearly every trade scenario under the sun….I promise…this will be my last one (at least for the next few months or so).

  • Washington Wizards Receive: Emeka Okafor, James Posey, Julian Wright
  • New Orleans Hornets Receive: Gilbert Arenas, JaVale McGee

WHY:  Let’s face facts…When Washington drafted John Wall and traded for Kirk Hinrich thay all but announced Arenas was no longer welcome.  Sure, Hinrich could come off the bench but more than likely he’ll start in the backcourt with Wall and Arenas will be dealt.  The Wizards are reshaping their franchise and the three players coming from New Orleans are all solid citizens and locker room guys.  Okafor’s contract is just as bad as the one Arenas has but at least Okafor is a class act who could thive being back in the Eastern Conference and away from David West (the two never got in sync on the court in New Orleans).  Posey is a solid vet who can help a young team develop and Wright still has lots of potential and may hit his stride with a change of scenery.

Arenas is a huge gamble for the Hornets but one worth taking.  Assuming he’s healthy and ready to prove he’s learned his lesson from last season’s fiasco…Arenas could be huge for the Hornets.  To get the Hornets to take on Arenas the Wizards would have to toss in McGee.  McGee is a young ‘7 footer who can run the floor and may flourish the way Tyson Chandler did when playing with Chris Paul.

The Hornets can also make sure Cp3 and Arenas aren’t over-worked by playing young stars Darren Collison and Marcus Thornton off the bench.

I understand this trade is a gamble for both teams but it seems like a good, fair deal for both franchises and that’s something that not every NBA trade provides.

2010-2011 Hornets:

Chris Paul

Gilbert Arenas

Peja Stojakovic

David West

JaVale McGee

Bench:

Darren Collison, Marcus Thornton, Craig Brackins, Quincy Pondexter, Darius Songaila, Aaron Grey (Ian Mahinmi & Brian Cusworth: 2 big men I’d like to see the Hornets sign).

The Hornets still have $19 million dollars coming off the books in the summer of 2011 when the contracts of Peja and Songaila expire.
