2010 BCS Predictions

BCS Championship Game:

Alabama vs. TCU

WHY: ‘Bama returns so many starters and seems so stacked it’s hard to pick against them reaching this game.  Sure, the SEC is cut throat and teams slip up but I see the Tide running the table.  TCU loses two great defensive players but returns so many talented guys on both sides of the ball that I keep coming back to the Horned Frogs when trying to pick teams in this title game.  TCU has won 11 games in four of the past five seasons…so I believe this is the year the Mountain West Conference breaks through and crashes the BCS title game!

Rose Bowl:

Stanford vs. Ohio State

WHY: Just something about Jim Harbaugh and Andrew Luck that makes me pull for the Cardinal.  With USC out of the mix and the Pac-10 kind of down this year, I’m going with Stanford (although I also like Washington as a Pac-10 sleeper).  Ohio State enters this game with only one loss (to Iowa).

Sugar Bowl:

LSU vs. Nebraska

WHY:  While most experts are predicting ‘miles of misery’ in Baton Rouge…I think the opposite.  I think Tigers defensive coordinator John Chavis will have LSU playing great on that side of the ball and Jordan Jefferson will do just enough to keep the Tigers afloat.  I think LSU loses to ‘Bama during the regular season but ends up in the BCS when the Crimson Tide beats Florida in the SEC Championship game.

Nebraska gets the BCS nod when they’re dealt their first loss of the season from Oklahoma in the Bix XII championship game.

Fiesta Bowl:

Oklahoma vs. Iowa

WHY: The Sooners will stumble at least once during the regular season…but so will Texas.  OU beats the Longhorns and advances to the Big XII Championship game.  Oklahoma beats Nebraska earning a trip to play in Arizona.  Iowa will lose at least once (probably to Wisconsin) but gets the BCS bid because they’ll beat Ohio State and win the Big Ten regular season championship.

Orange Bowl:

Pitt vs.  Florida State

WHY: I really like both of these teams….therefore think they’ll both come out strong and runaway with their respective conferences.  That said, both will have at least one, probably two, losses and will not be in the running for the BCS title game.

No Boise State: I think the Broncos will fall to Virginia Tech in the season opener which will in essence eliminate them from BCS contention.

Tulane: 4-8 Overall

(The Wave beats Southeastern, Army, Rice and Central Florida…..loses to Ole Miss, Houston, Rutgers, Tulsa, UTEP, SMU, USM and Marshall)

And I hate to say I told you so…but I told you so Bob Toledo.  After three years of trying to force a square peg into a round hole Toledo has finally seen the light and has changed the offense.  The Wave will now be a wide open passing team (a system that Toledo has repeatedly made fun of the past three years) and drop the traditional pro style offense.  I’ve said for years that Tulane has to be wide open because they don’t have the guys up front to be competative in a traditional offense.
