Way Too Early BCS Predictions
August 18, 2011

Yes, I know…it’s crazy early to make BCS bowl game predictions…but I’m doing it anyway.

8/17/11 BCS Bowl Game Predictions:

Orange Bowl:

West Virginia (11-1) vs. Michigan State (10-2)

WHY: WVU wins the Big East (and hands LSU it’s only loss of the season).  WVU is one of the sleeper national championship teams in my opinion.  I’ve been touting new coach Dana Holgorsen since he was an assistant at Houston…I even wrote a blog several years ago that he should replace Bob Toledo at Tulane.

After another solid season the Spartans are an at-large team from the Big Ten.

Rose Bowl:

Nebraska (11-2) vs. Oregon (10-2)

WHY: Nebraska announces its presence with authority…winning the Big Ten in its first season in the league.  Oregon loses to LSU and Stanford but still goes as an at-large from the Pac 12.

Fiesta Bowl:

Texas A&M (11-2) vs. Alabama (10-2)

WHY: I think Texas A&M stumbles early against SMU but rebounds to win the Big XII.  Alabama loses to LSU and Mississippi State but at 10-2 earns an at-large berth in the BCS.

Sugar Bowl:

LSU (12-1) vs. Boise State (12-0)

WHY: LSU runs the table in the SEC and wins the conference championship game.  The Tigers only blemish comes at West Virginia early in the season.

I’m still not sure Boise State can get past Georgia in week 1….but if the Broncos can beat the Bulldogs they’ll run the table and earn a berth as an at-large.

BCS National Championship Game:

Florida State (13-0) vs. Stanford (13-0)

WHY: I know many people are doubting Stanford after losing head coach Jim Harbaugh to the NFL and because the Cardinal graduated 3 key offensive lineman.  But the same system is in place in Palo Alto and Andrew Luck is the best player in college football.  I think Stanford runs the table and wins what is expected to be a rather weak Pac 12.

If Florida State can get past Oklahoma in a huge showdown early in the season I think the Seminoles will win-out and finish 13-0.  I think Jimbo Fisher has a ton of talent…the ‘Noles will prove in 2011 that the program is back!

Sleeper (Non-BCS Team) To Watch:

SMU Mustangs

WHY:  I think the Mustangs pull off a huge upset and beat Texas A&M to open the 2011 season.  The pony express has a chance to run the table and win C-USA with an undefeated record.

Oklahoma Sooners

Many of you may be asking…why aren’t the Sooners in one of my BCS games?  The answer…I’m not an OU fan.  I think Bob Stoops team will lose to Florida State, Texas A&M and one more Big XII team.
